Why I’m so not there anymore…

Filed under thought for the day by Celia

“LDS Apostle Boyd K. Packer on Oct. 12 gave an impromptu speech in his Sandy ward, taking the entire meeting to tell stories of his childhood during the Great Depression and to warn Mormons in attendance of troubled times, saying they are God’s way of humbling the faithful.

“It’s about time the Lord taught us a lesson,” Packer, president of the LDS Quorum of Twelve Apostles, is said to have warned. “A great catastrophe is coming. . . . That’s what it will take to turn our hearts to the Lord. And we will learn from it. Our prayers will be different, less selfish.”  Salt Lake Tribune, Oct. 29, 2008

What kind of “uplifting” talk is that?  Holy Hannah, am I glad I don’t go to church anymore if that is the kind of crap I would have to listen to.

Nothing like making things worse for those who are suffering, thinking it is about them needin’ a lesson.  It must be true, Boyd K. Packer said so.

(To all my LDS Readers, I love you.  Please don’t buy into that fear-mongering)

Today…

Filed under the gory truth, whine whine whine by Celia

Today I’d like to run away.

Somewhere in the lake district in England would be nice.  I’d have someone bring me tea, and I could stare out the window at the rain coming down on the autumn hills.

Today I’d like to be someone else.

I’d like to be an author, one without a deadline, who could luxuriously add word after word to a novel involving romance, mystery, and deep meaning.

Today I’d like to have someone else’s body.

Not too thin, but strong and lean.  A body that was younger, healthier, and free of pain.

Today I’d like to have someone else’s bank account.

Maybe J.K. Rowlings, or hey, even Stephenie Meyers.

Today I’d like my past to roll up into a ball and get kicked under the couch with the dust balls.

Today I’d like get in my car and drive and drive and drive.

Today, well, today I’d just like things to shift a bit.

Not much to ask.

Just a titch.
