John turns 17 today! It is hard to believe that my third child has only one year left before being legally considered an adult. I mean, the earrings are so gross! (*I know, I know, it’s his way of rebelling or whatever).
John is a very gifted young man. He has a kind and open heart, and he has the ability to connect with young and old almost instantly. He can go anywhere and end up meeting everyone and becoming their best friend.
He graduates from Alchemists in two weeks, and this has been an interesting 9 months for him. He took a “detour” for a while, but now he is back in school, working hard, and has a goal in mind. He is setting his sights on college next year and knows he has a work to do on this planet.
John was my child born shortly after my mom died. There was a lot of grief during my pregnancy with him, but he brought me such amazing joy. In fact, his whole life has been about bringing me joy. He can be a stinker (oh boy can he!) but he is also a love. I mean, he still holds my hand when we are out together and tells me he loves me all the time.
So, thank you God for sending me my beautiful boy. Happy Birthday, John!

So, last night my family and I went to my boss’s house to celebrate his birthday. There was great food, a lot of music, and fun. However, when we got home around 9:30, I started feeling really weird. My throat was on fire, my tummy was lurching, and I felt very strange.
After “eliminating” the dinner and taking some Benedryl, with the thought that I had eaten something and was having an allergic reaction, I fell asleep around 11:00 p.m.
When I awoke this afternoon at 2:15 p.m. I kept looking at the clock to make sure I was hallucinating. No, it was true. I had actually slept 15 hours. My throat is still sore, my glands are swollen, and my husband is convinced I have West Nile Virus.
It is estimated that about 20% of people who become infected with WNV will develop West Nile fever. Symptoms include fever, headache, tiredness, and body aches, occasionally with a skin rash (on the trunk of the body) and swollen lymph glands. While the illness can be as short as a few days, even healthy people have reported being sick for several weeks.
I don’t know about the West Nile, but something ain’t right. Actually, at the moment I feel ok, I just feel like I’m floating about 3 feet above my body. I have way too much to do this week to have another sick day, so I will gird up my loins and return to work tomorrow. I was supposed to have gone to Salt Lake today to see a business seminar, and I’m actually bummed that I missed it.
I was supposed to go Visiting Teaching tonight, but that ain’t happening. So, it’s a Jammie Day at the Hatch’s house. My children are feeding on potato chips and ramen, and my husband has hidden himself away in the basement.
However, I am still alive.
